Bear Bagging: We will hang all food & "smellables" properly at night. Each person will need gear for hanging a bear bag. See the Bear Bagging page.
Insects: Ticks will be especially bad this year. Use insect repellant, long pants, treat clothing. Check yourself daily.
Clothing: DON'T carry clothes for each day. See Clothing Tips page for suggestions.
Shelter: Be prepared to camp away from shelters. If a shelter happens to be empty, we will use it. We will likely spend a night or two between shelters.
Weather: Keep an eye on the weather forecast & adjust your gear accordingly.
July temperatures average (60° low - 80° high)
Car Bag: Bring a small car bag with a set of clothes, soap, towel, MP3 player, money, etc.

Half Gallon Challenge - For the past three decades, long-distance hikers arriving at the midway point of the 2,180-mile Georgia-to-Maine footpath have made it a tradition to stop at Pine Grove Furnace State Park and eat an entire brick of ice cream.

The reward: bragging rights, a commemorative wooden spoon stamped in red letters with "Member of Half Gal. Club," and quite likely an upset stomach.
